Let us start with the mehndi!
Mehndi is celebrated at both sides, the bride’s side and the groom’s side as well. On this day a paste of a herb called mehndi is designed on the hands of the groom. Other relatives also take part in this ceremony. All the female relatives from the groom’s side also draw these beautiful patterns on their hands.
Reason: It is said that this paste gives a feeling of relief to the bride and the groom before their big day.
Samuhat
In this ceremony, the wedding starts officially with the permission of lord Ganesha. During this lord, Ganesha’ssthapana is done at home and all the family members do the worship. The next ceremony is the “Haldi” ceremony. Haldi ceremony is celebrated in the houses of both the bride and groom. After haldi, “havan” takes place at the home.
Reason: The reason for samuhat is that in Hinduism Lord Ganesha is asked for permission before the beginning of any sacred ceremony. The Haldi is celebrated to enhance the beauty of both bride and the groom.

Janeu Ceremony
It is a very unique ceremony that you will get to see in the Himachali matrimony. In this, a holy thread is put on the body of the groom. This thread is white generally. This thread is called Janeu. The groom wears clothes of yellow color while doing this holy ceremony.
Reason: it is believed in Hinduism that this sacred thread is put on somebody when it is assumed that person has become able to handle the responsibilities.
Barat Ceremony
After all, this ceremony everyone’s favorite Barat ceremony comes. Everybody in the groom’s house is all set to go to the bride’s home for further rituals. This ceremony is celebrated with another level of joy and happiness. Everybody dances to a special type of band music. They dance in the Himachali style. Every male from the groom’s side wears a special “pagdi” or a turban on their head.
Reason: This turban is worn to make their presence in the “barat”. It signifies that people wearing this turban are from the groom’s side.
Vermala Ceremony
In Himachali Matrimony, the moment “Barat” reaches the bride’s home they ate welcomed in a very warm manner. A ritual of ribbon cutting is done during the entrance by the sisters-in-law of the groom. After this ver mala ceremony is done. In this bride and groom puts a garland around each other’s neck.

SaatPhere Ceremony
The next and most auspicious ritual is the “saatphere” ceremony. In this, the bride and groom take seven rounds around the holy fire. They take seven vows to promise their life-long togetherness.
Vidai
After the completion of all rituals in Himachali Matrimony, it’s time to go to the groom’s home now. This ritual or custom when everybody says bye to the bride and groom with wet eyes is known as vidai.
